John 13:1, 34-35
“Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.
Jesus said, ‘So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.’”
Reflection
Are there people or situations that make it hard for you to be loving?
Jesus knew that his disciples would betray, deny and abandon him soon, but he loved and served and invited them, even still. He gave them the command to love one another in the same way he loved them.
Take a moment to examine your heart:
Are you serving others with humility?
Are you embracing Jesus’ call to love sacrificially?
Pray
- for your heart to grow in love for those who are difficult to love
- for opportunities to serve others humbly
- for the church around the world to be unified and loving to everyone
Jesus, we love imperfectly, but we want to obey your command to love each other. Help us carry on your legacy of love today. Give us opportunities to put others ahead of ourselves. Let us be known by your love, Jesus. Amen.
