Whether we realize it or not, our choices and actions as Christ-followers are visible to the people around us. If we are wearing one of our church t-shirts (like our “Do Much Good” or “Live Self Less” shirts with a purpose), we should be especially aware that we represent our faith community as we run errands, drive, and interact with people! However, regardless of how obvious it is outwardly, we always wear our identity as a follower of Jesus, and people notice.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 says,
You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial. Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.
In the Message paraphrase, it says, “We want to live well, but our foremost efforts should be to help others live well.”
Questions to consider:
Take a moment to reflect: How does my behavior point people either toward Jesus or away from him? Is there something that I feel free to do that I might need to reconsider – either because of how it affects me or others?
An action step to take:
Wear your “Live Self Less” shirt soon and be especially mindful of how you treat service workers and strangers you meet.
