Summer Mailer sent out July 9, calendar change

Be on the lookout during the second full week of July for the SCS Summer Mailer.  This mailer is filled with pertinent information you will need for next school year.  Please note, though, that last year's August/September calendar was advertently included in the mailer.  Click here for the August/September 2010 calendar.  We apologize for this mistake.  If you do not receive your Summer Mailer by July 22, please call the school office at 698-1933 ext. 3452.

Sales tax holiday set for Aug. 6--15

Back-to-school shoppers can look forward to a small discount on purchases next month.  Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation on July 14 that eliminates the state's 5 percent sales tax for ten days -- from Aug. 6 to Aug. 15.

The sales tax holiday applies to school supplies and clothing items that are less than $100.

Computers, art supplies and textbooks will still be taxed as normal.  Any local sales tax will still be in effect.  Click here for a complete list of sales tax free items.

Return sports physicals before try-outs, practices

Fifth- through eighth-grade students planning to participate in sports this summer and next school year must turn in their sports physicals prior to any try-outs or practices in any and all SCS sports teams.  IESA Yellow Card Physical Forms were returned in students' report card envelopes.  These sports physical cards are designed to be used for multiple years.  If you used a doctor's form for your athlete's physical, it is only good for 365 days and will not be returned.  Physical forms will stay on file in the Athletic Office until the day they expire.

Baseball try-outs are August 2.
Cross Country begins August 2.
Girl’s Basketball try-outs/practices begin August 31.

Please make sure your athlete is prepared with an up-to-date sports physical.

Girl’s Basketball Camp
(contact Coach Jeffers for more information)

Girls entering fifth through eighth grade are invited to participate in the Girl's Basketball Camp from 10:45 until 1:00 p.m. from August 16--19.  Athletes must have a current sports physical card on file to participate.  For more information, contact Coach Jeffers.

Need Market Day coordinator for 2010--2011 school year

In order to continue offering our Market Day program to SCS families and friends, our school needs a volunteer (or two) to coordinate the program.  If you are interested, please contact the Market Day area district supervisor (Rita) at 309-691-9189--office or 309-849-8024--cell.

The next Market Day pickup is currently scheduled for Friday, June 18, from 2:15 until 5:00 p.m.  Questions?  Call the school office at 698-1933 or Rita (information above).

SCS athletes invited to train in summer running club

SCS parents and coaches have organized a summer running club to help athletes going into 5th through 8th grade stay in shape over the summer break.  The summer running club meets for one hour at 7:00 p.m., three times a week on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Click on the "extracurricular" menu and click on "Athletics" for the times and locations of when the group meets or click on the SCS Running Club blog:    www.scsrunclub.blogspot.com.
